Steve Liang is an expert in Internet of Things sensors and standards. He is the founder and CEO of SensorUp Inc, a Calgary startup company that empowers developers to build applications that connect with everything in the world. Steve is also an associate professor at University of Calgary’s Schulich School of Engineering.

Steve’s goal is to disrupt the silos of the Internet of Things and to empower anyone to build connected apps and devices. He is the author of the Open Geospatial Consortium SensorThings API, the goal of which is to provide a uniform way to expose the full potential of the Internet of Things.

He has also contributed to the development of one of the first virtual globe systems in the world, GlobeView. GlobeView was later commercialized by GeoTango Corp., and subsequently acquired by Microsoft in 2005.
